Creator Guidelines

Creator responsibility, rights, labeling, monetization, and prohibited content.

Last updated August 29, 2026

1. Creator responsibility and independent merchant status

Creators are independent merchants and are responsible for everything they upload, publish, sell, link to, license, promote, or otherwise make available through Drift & Quill.

The Creator, and not Drift & Quill, is responsible for:

  • ownership or lawful authorization of Creator Content;
  • copyright, trademark, publicity, privacy, and other rights associated with Creator Content;
  • the accuracy and legality of Content and metadata;
  • representations made about a work or product;
  • pricing and product descriptions;
  • merchant and consumer obligations applicable to Creator transactions;
  • taxes, registrations, licenses, and reporting applicable to the Creator;
  • customer support and fulfillment obligations associated with Creator transactions;
  • responding to rights-holder complaints concerning Creator Content;
  • compliance with payment-provider requirements applicable to the Creator;
  • chargebacks, refunds, reversals, and other transaction obligations allocated to the Creator or the Creator's connected account; and
  • claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising from the Creator's Content, products, conduct, or transactions, subject to applicable law.

Drift & Quill provides technology and Platform services. Except where expressly agreed in writing or required by applicable law, Drift & Quill is not the author, publisher, editor, literary agent, owner, seller, employer, partner, joint venturer, fiduciary, or legal representative of a Creator or the Creator's Content.

2. Rights and permissions

Before publishing Content, you must have all rights, permissions, licenses, consents, releases, and other authority necessary to:

  • publish the Content;
  • reproduce and distribute the Content;
  • display the Content;
  • make the Content available through the Platform;
  • sell or monetize the Content where applicable;
  • grant the licenses required by these Terms; and
  • use names, likenesses, trademarks, photographs, artwork, quotations, or other third-party material included in the Content.

You are responsible for maintaining evidence of those rights and must provide reasonable evidence to Drift & Quill upon request when necessary to investigate a complaint, payment dispute, legal claim, policy violation, or regulatory inquiry.

Drift & Quill may require additional documentation, temporarily restrict Content or monetization, or suspend an account while such documentation is reviewed. Any such action does not constitute an admission by Drift & Quill that the underlying claim is valid.

3. Originality and plagiarism

You may not upload plagiarized, stolen, pirated, fraudulently obtained, or unauthorized Content.

If you publish fanfiction or other transformative works involving third-party intellectual property, you are solely responsible for determining whether your use is lawful and permitted by the applicable rights holder and by these Terms.

Drift & Quill does not provide legal advice concerning fair use, fair dealing, parody, transformative use, public-domain status, trademark rights, or other intellectual-property doctrines.

4. Accuracy and labeling

Creators must accurately identify:

  • the type and format of a work;
  • authorship and contributor information;
  • genres and categories;
  • mature-content status;
  • pricing;
  • volume and chapter information;
  • material restrictions or access conditions; and
  • any other information reasonably requested by Drift & Quill.

You may not intentionally manipulate metadata to obtain traffic, rankings, recommendations, or sales.

5. Creator obligations for paid Content

If you monetize Content, you act as an independent merchant and are responsible for:

  • having the legal right to sell or license the Content;
  • complying with applicable consumer, tax, advertising, intellectual-property, and payment laws;
  • providing accurate product descriptions;
  • honoring applicable refunds, reversals, and dispute obligations;
  • responding to legitimate buyer issues;
  • maintaining accurate payment and tax information;
  • complying with Stripe and other payment-provider requirements; and
  • keeping your account and payout information current.

6. Prohibited monetization

You may not monetize:

  • illegal Content;
  • Content you do not have rights to sell;
  • deceptive or fraudulent products;
  • stolen or pirated works;
  • counterfeit works;
  • Content designed primarily to evade Platform restrictions;
  • transactions intended to manipulate creator rankings, payout allocations, or Platform metrics; or
  • anything prohibited by Stripe, payment-network rules, or applicable law.

7. Removal of creator Content

Drift & Quill may remove, restrict, unpublish, demonetize, age-gate, or disable any Creator Content as permitted by these Terms.

A creator's loss of visibility, rankings, subscribers, readers, or prospective earnings does not by itself create liability for Drift & Quill.
